Wisconsin Public Radio Spring 2009 Survey
Spring 2009 Survey
The Survey Monkey survey was created and enabled to pop up at the end of each session. The system required that each library involved turn on the popup in order to deliver the survey to users. During the month of May 2009 there were a total of 1700 transactions that should have initiated a survey pop up. Unfortunately the return rate didn't match that potential. Still the results are interesting if sparse
Number of returned surveys: 57 The overview results of those responses: First time AskAway users: 74% How did you find out about AskAway: 77% library website 9% librarian 10% teacher 7% relative or friend Will you use AskAway again: 84% said yes Were you satisfied with your answer: 85% said yes Kind of patron: 52% WI public library patrons 25% college student 23% k-12 student The overall survey results indicate that we're doing a reasonable job with the AskAway service and covering a broad spectrum of users. However the overall returns were entirely too low to judge the effectiveness of the WPR radio sponsor spots, or for that matter any PR efforts.
We'll look at creating another targeted survey for the fall.
Important - this survey period May 2009, is over. Turn off now.
In order to accurately gauge the effectiveness of sponsoring our Wisconsin Public Radio (WPR) spot announcements we've created a survey to add to all of our AskAway patron traffic for the month of May 2009. We wanted the question "How did you find out about this service?" with the option to answer "Wisconsin Public Radio (WPR) spot announcement" So we created an external survey which can automatically be linked from within QuestionPoint Administration and then be presented automatically and seamlessly to our patrons. Here's the screen shot of where you need to be to set all this up:
Log on with an Administrator authorization and go to Admin. Under the Institution Tab, choose the Surveys Button. Then choose the Survey Form Tab. In order to make the whole thing work use the set up as above: Choose the "Link patrons to an External survey..." Radio Button Use the Survey Location as highligted, it's: http://www.surveymonkey.com/s.aspx?sm=jKEDDZkEjal1kwWmVv8HOw_3d_3d Check Box both "Chat Session" and "Ask Answers", to have the survey available after both web form/email answers and completed chat sessions Check Box both Chat and Ask for the first listed Questions, the QP system requires there be active questions for the internal surveys in order to activate the process, even though you won't be using the internal survey. That's it. Click Save and you're done. To turn off the survey simply Radio button to "Link to the Internal survey..." and then UnCheck under Internal Survey the "Chat Session" and "Ask Answers" boxes.
We want to run this survey during and only for the month of May. Please set up and turn on by May 1st and turn it back off on June 1st, 2009. All results go to the external survey account we have with Survey Monkey. We'll scrape off the results and send them out during the first week of June. Thanks to everyone.
Surveys
The QuestionPoint system has a built in Survey form. It contains 30 pre-composed questions, plus a default Comments box. The administrator for each library can choose which of those questions to place into a survey, for Chat users or for Web form users or for both. Reports can be pulled for any or all of the filled surveys too. And you can enable or disable the surveys whenever you like.
Start Log in with your Administrator Autho going to the Admin section from the upper right hand drop down.
Click on the Surveys Link
Next Click on the Survey Form tab.
Select the questions you want to use Decide if any question is for Chat or Ask (that is Web Forms). You can view what the completed survey will look like. You can click the appropriate check boxes to enable one or both or neither of the surveys. As usual you finish by clicking the Save button.
The patron chooses whether to complete a survey when a chat session ends. They can click on the Chat Survey link.
The Survey Pop up Form Can then be completed.
